The pretty market town of Tewkesbury is a place that attracts many visitors all year around. With its picturesque riverside location and many ancient buildings, it is a popular place to come and enjoy the quiet life. Festivals – Tewkesbury is fond of a party, and it has unique festivals in the town. Tewkesbury mop fair is a celebration held by the town that goes back centuries – in fact, the first of its kind was believed to be held first in 1199 by King John! In 1324 King Edward II declared that an annual fair would be held in the town and today it continues, known as the Mop Fayre. Historic Buildings – If you are looking for buildings with history then you will find plenty in Tewkesbury. Despite its small size, it packs in plenty of buildings of historic interest, and of course the most famous of these is Tewkesbury Abbey. The building of the abbey started in 1102, and much of the original building still remains. The stained glass windows are a favourite attraction in the abbey, particularly the west window which was added in the 17th Century.

As well as the Abbey there is the John Moore Museum – a beautiful timber framed building, typical of the Tudor period. Here you can explore the history and heritage of the area, from the buildings to the local wildlife.

Wonderful Walks – There is so much to see around the area, and there are lots of walking trails to enjoy. If you want to walk in the footsteps of the famous battle of Tewkesbury, follow the battle trail, or visit the water meadow and its special flora and fauna that live here on the Severn Ham walk. You can also take a walk around the town on a heritage trail and discover the old buildings and cobbled streets and find out more about the local myths and legends as well as tales from the past.
