Candler Park Music Festival is a summer event that is attended by millions of people every year. It is one of the largest summer music festivals in North America, and this year’s lineup features some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B music. The festival also has an offshoot concert series that takes place in Candler Park throughout the year.
About Candler Park Music Festival
The Candler Park Music Festival is held all over Downtown Atlanta each year during the months of May to October. It is named after William Henry Candler, who opened his first streetcar in 1894 and then built a brewery at what later became part of Memorial Drive. Over two decades later, in 1916 he had established an amusement park on this former streetcar line that was called Central Park Stadium (renamed Zoo Lake Arena).
In 1930 they decided to convert it into a public park. Originally the park only had a few months of use in the summer, hence it wasn’t until 1968 that Shug Jordan announced his plans to make it an annual event with this year’s name- “Candler Park Music Festival” and was officially organized by local residents and musicians (including Don Brown) in 1969.
What are the benefits of attending this event?
There are a lot of benefits to attending the Candler Park Music Festival – most notably free admission, free parking and thousands of dollars in giveaway items. The only downside to this festival is there isn’t nearly enough seating for everyone who attends the event but with over 40,000 attendees that generally lines up overnight for tickets.
The lineup of the festival
The lineup is stacked, with all seven stages packed together in a little over 4 acres of grass. Our favorite stage at Candler Park Music Festival by far that we’ve ever attended was the Reggae on Stage where this year’s headliner acts consist of RAT BOIZ, ALABASHARAM and THE ITZY BANDS .
It’s even worse at The Roots Stage compared to where we were sitting on the same stage last year, it was just amazing and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves there – VIP contests included voter giveaways and cotton candy from around 50 vendors that lined up all day long . . . yum!
When is it and where can I go to attend this event?
The Candler Park Music Festival is not an event you try and miss, it’s a 3 day event that runs from the 28th-30th of July this year which mostly takes place on Georgia Tech Campus (Georgia Institute of Technology) depending on where you want to go. On Thursday, there are limited tickets available while they sell out every two minutes everywhere else.
Conclusion
This is an event that many people look forward to, and it has been a staple in Chicago for over 30 years. It’s not just a music festival, but also a social experience that brings the community together. So whether you’re looking for something to do with friends or family, or you’re trying to get out of the house and see what Chicago has to offer, this is a must-see event!
