A Brise Soleil is a protective piece of equipment that is attached to the outside of a building to provide shade from the sun and to help prevent the inside of the building from overheating as a result of direct sunlight and high temperatures.
The shade is made up of a number of blades that can be positioned either horizontally or vertically. These blades help to moderate teh amount of sunlight that is allowed to enter the building. This then helps to keep the temperatures and light exposure in the buildings down to a minimu. This is particularly useful if you have lots of glass in your buildings or they are facing towards the sun.
The word itself means ‘sun breaker’ in French and it was initially developed by an architect in Switzerland back in the 1930s. Since these earlier days, they have increased dramatically in popularity as they help to prevent the greenhosue effect from occuring inside buildings adn they can also help prevent birds from flying ot your windows or trying to nest against them.
As well as being made of blades that can be erected either horizontally or vertically they can also be made from free standing units and shelves and also walkways. The materials that can be used include various metals and even wood, so you can make an architectural poiece out of their installation.
