Gloucestershire Walks to Enjoy this Winter

In winter we can often suffer from low mood and depression, and one of the best ways to combat this feeling is by getting out in the great outdoors. In Gloucestershire, there are many places where you can enjoy a walk and see the natural beauty as well as the history of the area.

Cleeve Hill – To really get your blood pumping climb to the summit of Cleeve hill. It is the highest point in Gloucestershire and on a clear bright day you will be able to see as far as Wales from here. The climb is part of the Cotswold way, so you could also include part of that walk into your route.

Crickley Hill – This is a lovely route that is three miles in total and will take you on a circular walk of the Crickley hill country park. See Gloucestershire’s Roman heritage as you pass the Roman Villa and enjoy views over the countryside of Gloucestershire.

Gloucester and Sharpness Canal – Walk long the canal from Gloucester Docks, the most inland port in the UK and see the waterways used by the canal boats to transport materials such as coal during the industrial revolution. There are lots of waterfowl to see as you walk along so remember to take some bird seed with you!

The Sculpture Trail – In the Forest of Dean, this is a walk the whole family will love. As you make your way through the trees, you will see various sculptures, that acknowledge the people, the heritage and the wildlife that make up the forest.
